Part 2:
Part 3:
Stephen Hawkins-
Father Robert Spitzer-
Deepak Chopra-
Please Answer these questions:
1. What seemed to be the most interesting part of these discussions.
2. Please describe the viewpoint expressed by each of the presenters.
3. How do you think these opinions affect our society?
I agree with Father Spitzer. It is almost illogical to think that everything in our universe was created from nothing. Something had to have existed in the beginning in order for the universe to be created. I think the most interesting part about these discussions is how different each view point is about the creation of the universe. Stephen Hawkins is a supporter of the big bang theory. Meaning, he believes that a random combination of elements in nothingness sparked the start of our universe. Father Spitzer believes that a creator was involved in the orgins of the universe. Deepak Chapra suggests that our universe is within a creator. Since most every countrys' society is based on religion, Stephen Hawkens' ideas are not widely excepted. Depending on the person's faith, they may have different viewpoints about these ideas.
ReplyDeleteI thought the most interesting thought on this video was how father spitzer contradicted Stephen Hawking's idea of how the universe was created. Hawking stated that he believes that the world came to exist due to a large boom and light creating the universe, basically saying the universe created its self somehow. Fr. Spitzer counters the argument by saying how can nothing create something, basically saying nothing created nothing. I thought that was the most interesting topic discussed in the video.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that i have come to a conclusion about this topic. I think these three mean re brilliant and they all have valid points. The most interesting part of the video had to be when Mr. Stephen Hawkins was speaking. He was very straight forward with his answers and didn't dance around the question. He talked talked about the creation of the world and did not hesitate to say that there is no higher being. That fascinated me because he had such a blunt answer. Stephen Hawkins viewpoint was clear to the fact that he did not believe in a higher being. Father Spritzer was
ReplyDeletetrying to disprove Mr. Hawkins. Spitzer talked about the creation of the world coming from God and the evidence behind it. Mr. Chopra agreed to and extent with father spritzer and tried to find a happy medium with Hawkins. He talked about a creation coming from God. But also he tried to tie science into creation as well. These opinions would have a great effect on society because if one of these ideas was proven it would change the way society thinks of either religion or science.
Nice Posts guys- really well thought out...
ReplyDeleteThe interesting part of these discussions was that it opened you up to different views on how the universe was created. Stephen Hawkins believes that there is no need for God to create the universe. He argues his beliefs in his new book. Father Spitzer's view on the creation of the universe is based on God. He believes that God created the universe because there is no way that the universe just came from "nothing" and has evidence to prove it. Deepak Chopra agreed with Father Spitzer that the universe had to come from somewhere, not just from nothing. Their opinions affect society by influencing our views and questioning our beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI thought the most interesting part of this discussion personally, were the arguments and disagreements Hawkins and Spitzer concluded about the creation of the universe. These two men overall are extremely intelligent and both have very valid points in their arguments. Hawkings was very blunt in his responses and was certain to there being no God. Hawkings believes that the universe created itself and i found it very entertaining that he was so straightforward and confident that their is no higher being. Father Spitzer opposed Hawkings idea and continued to talk about the creation of the world coming from God and that being said, evidentially proven. Father Spitzer makes a good point in how it is impossible for nothing to create eventually a universe. These opinion would affect our society because it contradicts in what people choose to believe and if or when one of these ideas is proven it would change the way society thinks about religion and science as a whole.
ReplyDeleteThe most intnersting parts of these discussions was when Father Spitzer was talking about his views of "nothing can't create something" can't be entirely possible. Where as Stephen Hawkins was trying to prove the creation of our world on the Big Bang, but this would mean that nothing created something, which I don't beleive is possible. Deepak Chopras views were very philosophical, he does believe that God and science can co-exist but in certain ways. With these opinions in mind it could change the way our society see's science and religion together. There is no evidence on how the earth was created but when it is discovered it will change the way we view God and the different ideas scientists have come up with.
ReplyDeleteAll of these three men have very versatile opinions. Fr. Spitzer argues that the universe could not have been created out of nothing. There had to have been something to have created the universe, in his opinion a creator was involved. Mr. Hawkins believes in that the big bang theory created the entire universe and made that very clear. The big band is believed to have been a large boom and light created from a bunch of random elements. He strictly believes in this theory and nothing more. Mr. Chopra seems to be more on Fr. Spitzer's side yet still considered Hawkins idea. He seemed to be more the middle man who is considering both the big bang theory and a creator. To me I don't really know, but how do you create something from absolutely nothing?
ReplyDeleteI was very interested in the idea that Father Spitzer had,in which was God created our creation.Although I agree with this theory, doesn't mean I am judging the other scientists, I do think all of there perspectives are interesting to learn about, it's just I don't belive Steven Hawkins theory, because there obviously has to be a higher power somewhere out there that created the galaxies.Deepocks idea was also not in my favor, because it doesn't really make sense, he said that the big bang began out of nothingness, which i belive is impossible.
ReplyDeleteStephen Hawking's ideas of the universe creating itself through the big bang is a radical statement to most people because a very large part of the world belongs to a religion. Father Spitzer disagrees with Stephen Hawking's statement. He disagrees because he is a devout member of the church. Father Spitzer believes that God has created the universe and all matter. Deepak Chapra also believes that there is a creator but believes that we are living in the womb of creation. He sees the creator in everything. A persons personal opinion should not affect the opinions of another.
ReplyDeleteStephen Hawking idea of the universe creating itself out of nothing is irrelevant because what he did is he re defined the meaning of nothing to something, as for fathers spitsers idea of the universe being created from some being is perfect because God is present in everything see. depac chopra is also irrelevant to this matter because he sees God in everything thus for making the arguments between Stephen Hawkings and father spitsers hard.
ReplyDeleteLearning about the Big Bang Theory and it's contradicting theories was very interesting for me, it made me question my beliefs and I had to think about what was the most logic. Father Spitzer believes that is impossible to have something come from nothing. I agree with him, there had to of been something before our universe. But believing that statement makes you think how did that something that was there before our universe get there? Deepa Charpa thinks that our universe is within a creator, I don't agree with his theory. Stephen Hawkins has created the most well thought out theory of our universe over the years, he believes that a combination of elements created a spark and bang, the earth along with our universe was created. It was most interesting to hear the contradicting beliefs of these men.
ReplyDeleteI have always been taught about the big bang theory it had never made sense to me. Father Spitzers comments on how the earth was created makes complete sense on how could something come from nothing. This is definitely showing Stephen Hawkings theory makes no sense because if everything began from a single rock, then where did the rock come from. This has no evidence to back it up and shows that science cannot show how this can happen.
ReplyDeleteI found the video very interesting. I agree with Steven Hawking that much of the universe can be explained by science, but I agree with Deepak Chopra and Father Spitzer that there is much that can't be explained through just science. As they said, science can't fully understand consciousness, something that seems so perfect and well made. I believe that we are special, and were created for a reason, be it by the classically excepted God or the more abstract God Deepak had talked about. Regardless of what anyone says, Humanity and Earth are miracles and it is miracle itself that we are here to ponder the Universe and our place in it.
ReplyDeleteI liked Father Spitzers comments on how something came from nothing. If something came from nothing, there must have been something to begin with, so I agree with Father Spitzer. It was fascinating to see how the three argued their points of how the universe was created. Stephen Hawking believes that the universe was created through the big bang theory, but Father Spitzer argued how something could have come from nothing, so his point did not make any sense and he couldn't provide any concrete details to prove his point. I also think that Deepak Chopra was more on Father Spitzers side but he argued that the universe is within a creator, which I don't agree with.
ReplyDeleteAll three of these brillant minds all have different opinons on how the universe was created. Stephen Hawkings says that the universe was created through the big bang and it is possible for this to happen due to gravity. Yet Father Spitzer argues that it was absolute nothing before the big bang and therefore it is impossible for the big bang to have occurred without an outside push from a creator. This creator is what Father Spitzer believes to be God. Deepak Chopra though on the other hand acts more as a middle man where he doesn't say either of the two are wrong just simply that science cant explain everything and that it is not perfect and that it is possible for a creator to exist. I really liked watching these videos and expanding my knowledge of the subject of creation. Personally though i believe in a creator but i don't necessarily believe that he made everything, just that he made the conditions right for the big bang to occur and he then let it play out as it has without any control of the results.

ReplyDeleteThese men are all brilliant. Although stephen Hawkins lost his faith in God, father Spitzer is there to counter that and the third gentleman Deepak Chopra is there to give an outside look on the whole argument. Now when father spitzer was presenting a point it seemed that Me. Hawkins would counter it but at the same time he would kind of reinforce it and prove that science can go hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteI liked Stephen Hawkin's approach to the creation of the universe. I do not agree with his ideas that there is no God or creator. I believe that there was a creator of the universe and I agree with Father Spitzer and his claim that something cannot come from nothing. I believe in both these theories and if there is any medium to their ideas then that is something that I would follow.
ReplyDeleteI thought that all these brilliant men had very different points of views on how the earth was created but each made an interesting case. Stephen Hawkins believes that God did not create the universe and that it was done through science. Father Spitzer's view on the creation of the universe is that God created out world when he said let there be light. He believes that nothing shows that science created the world. Deepak Chopra agreed with Father Spitzer that the universe had to come from somewhere so therefore it must be God. There opinions on this case influence different people because how powerful men they are.
